Beginning at the stroke of midnight on Nov. 1, writers around the world will attempt to write the first draft of a 50,000 word novel. National Novel Writing Month, which takes place in November each year, is a fun way to encourage great writing habits among a goal-driven community. Does it work? You bet! The first drafts of two of my published novels, 3/17 and A Wisdom of Owls, were written during NaNoWriMo.
It’s free to sign up at nanowrimo.org and when you do, you can become part of a NaNoWriMo region and attend write-ins. Through my local write-ins, I connected with a group of fun people with whom I’ve participated in a writers group for the past three years.
So, the clock is ticking. Can you, will you, write a 50K novel in a month? I think you can!
